The 4 Best Cowboy Boots for Winter in 2024

The 4 Best Cowboy Boots for Winter in 2024

I’ve decided to get myself a pair of burnt Brownie cowboy boots handcrafted from cattle hide at the time of North Carolina’s wettest winter (a few years ago).

That’s when my journey with cowboy boots began and continues to this day. I guess these prettiest will accompany me for many more years in the future.

And if you are seeking something that brightens your foggy, gloomy and wet winter season, you’d love to give this footwear a try.

I’ve always had a great experience with cowboy boots in winter and snow time, particularly in Charlotte (as long as you don’t have to walk in 20 inches of snow every day, things are going to be fine).

My cowboy boots made up my glowing Christmas nights of all year when I often got to see the very first snow falls. They are pretty cozy and are one of the most beautiful parts of Christmas and New Year’s outfits.

That’s not all though. I wore cowboy boots for work through fall and winter in North Carolina as well.

Due to crafted real leather upper instead of fabric like sneakers, you’ll rarely get your feet wet when walking on melting snow (but I don’t mean to step on huge puddles in your back garden).

This real stuff is naturally water-repellent and I could say it’s safe during snowfalls and mid-winter rains (in my place).

However, keep in mind that leather outsoles should be something you always stay away from when it comes to winter cowboy boots. They are freakishly slippery!

My friend was hospitalized with a fractured pelvis from wearing leather-soled boots while walking in thinned wet snow and well, it’s never something I expect that will happen to you.

That’s already a lot about my story with the boots and here are some of the best cowboy boots for winter that I have gathered around for you.

Can you wear cowboy boots in the winter?

I do, in my winter in NC.

So yes, you can definitely wear cowboy boots in winter. Real leather and mid-calf construction help keep feet warm quite well even when the temperature drops below 25 F degrees.

Overall, cowboy boots can tolerate winter weather as well as daily exposure to heavy snow.

However, cowboy boots are not 100% waterproof. They are water-resistant naturally due to real leather upper but if you leave this genuine material to soak in water for a long time, they will lose the ability of moisture evaporation themselves.

If you don’t dry your boots after going outside in the wet, you may see mold marks growing fast, water marks or the chance of the leather’s appearance being degraded.

Choosing waterproof cowboy work boots is key for jobs that involve a lot of water exposure. These boots have a special water-repellent coating to keep your feet dry.

Remember though, this coating doesn’t last forever. To keep your boots in top shape, you’ll need to reapply the water-repellent layer from time to time.

Besides, a more at-ease and nurturing way to waterproof cowboy boots is to rub the footwear with mink oil/leather conditioner/leather wax from the outside.

The fat substances in these products will aid in water resistance to a certain extent (but not as much as you’d expect if you intend to step on deep water).

Another small note on expensive exotic leather cowboy boots, guess you won’t want to throw them on your feet and step on deep snow, and you shouldn’t.

Well, I’ve never owned such a pricey pair of boots, but since the maintenance costs for that leather line are kinda costing an arm and a leg, I wouldn’t recommend you take any risk.
