Dabbling in Design

Shirt: Me, Jeans: H&M, Boots: Target, Blazer: Gap,
Earrings: Thrifted, Ring: Cupcake from Kroger.
I've always appreciated fashion and loved working in the industry with Light Gives Heat and now a bit with my own little shop. While I am not the type of girl who tends to make crazy statements with my wardrobe, I do appreciate high fashion. But, I am so much more of a street style kind of person.
When I was in high school, I went through a phase where I was intent on getting into fashion design. My mom and dad helped me find a used sewing machine in the classifieds and we went shopping for patterns. But, I was interested in lots of creative jobs, so I quickly moved on to photography...which I also eventually moved on from just shortly after. Last Christmas, my husband invested in my creative crafty nature and bought me a sewing machine. I have used it for all sorts of things, but recently, I had an urge to try my hand at clothes again - something I haven't done for a few years.

I was driving home from church and had an idea for a shirt I would love to have. I didn't want to forget it so I literally walked in the door and worked for hours until I had my completed piece. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It's a piece I feel represents me well, it has a soft statement to it but still has the elements of "every-day" girl when I pair it with jeans and a cardigan or casual blazer. I loved the fabric and rough hem line. All of these wonderful photos were taken by Kaitlin McDuffie. You can see all her work here and her blog here. And for all you Nashville residents, I highly recommend her for your upcoming events and photography needs. She was so much fun to work with. I am so thankful I have photos to document this little fun piece of life. ♥, mK
