An Old Dog Can Learn New Tricks

For as long as I can remember, my grandma has been a Scrabble genius. I've embarrassed myself a time or two trying to take her on in a game only to come up ridiculously short with words like "poop" and "fart". Her scrabble dictionary and mind for words were far beyond my expertise! But no matter how terrible I have been at the game, I always tried to fit a game or two into each visit to PA.

A few weeks ago, my cousin Jeane' - her husband Curt, found a great deal on a Kindle Fire and so they had an idea. My ambitious cousin set out to teach my Grandma not only how to use a computer of sorts (The Kindle), but also teach her how to use the app, Words With Friends, so that all of us grandchildren could play with her, no matter where we lived across the states.

While I was visiting up north, my mom and I decided to check in and see how my Grandma was enjoying her new toy. She was doing great, but I did have to giggle at her conversation with my other cousin Brandon (who lives out west).

B: Grandma, this is great
Gma: An old dog can learn new tricks
B: Well, you're no old dog, but I'm impressed.

I couldn't agree more with my cousin Brandon! I am totally impressed by my grandma's ability to learn how to use not only a Kindle, but the app! I can only imagine how hard it would be to begin learning how to use computers after a lifetime of not.

Thank you Jeane' for being her patient tutor & great job Grandma! But, as my Great Aunt Dottie (her sister) told me yesterday on the phone, "You better let her win or you won't be playing her anymore! She's competitive!" Well, I AM my Grandma's grand-daughter and with that said, I'd like to announce I won my first game EVER against my grandma. That might be why two new games against her started not even a few seconds after my victory! I love you Grandma! I am so glad we can "hang out" even when I am here in Nashville! ♥, mK

  1. My grandma got a Kindle for her 94th Birthday this last year too & is absolutely loving it! It's amazing to watch them learn these things... it's kind of like watching your kids learn new things! Plus she's so cute sitting & reading on it :)
