I’m here talking about kids again! Our summer has been so active that I’ve been eager for a rainy day and a reason to stay indoors. I thought I’d share some of our favorite rainy day activities!
- Cut out raindrops and have the kids write down the things for which they are thankful.
- Go to www.kidsbowlfree.com to get vouchers for your children to have up to 2 free games all summer long at a local bowling alley. (While bowling is free, you will still pay for shoe rental)
- If you have a basement, where the room is completely dark, use glow in the dark tape (found at craft stores) to decorate arms, legs, and faces and have a dance party.

- My kids came up with this on their own. They used books to build a city all around their room and called it “wordworld”. They made a fire station, hospital, store, etc. and used matchbox cars to put around town.
- Keep butcher paper on hand and trace the kids entire body and then let them color in the details—clothes & faces. I keep them in the attic and pull them out to see how much the kids have grown.
- I keep a lot of cheap costume supplies in a box in our attic. Pulling them out for the morning or lunchtime can add a lot of fun when you have nowhere to go. You can have a beach party just by wearing leis and putting umbrellas in your drinks. Masks & mardi gras beads. Face painted animals. The 80’s wigs and sunglasses are a favorite of our kids. (I have had several themed parties!)
- Give each child a shoe box and have them fill it with trinkets from the playroom and then have a “yard sale” at home. They each get a handful of change and get to buy things from each other.
- My personal favorite and easiest of them all is to spend the afternoon watching a movie together!
Cheers to rainy days! ♥, Erin (Read more posts from Erin
