Upon our return back to Music City, I have found myself missing all of my favorite foods of my hometown in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Here are ten reasons why I love Lancaster County: food wise. If ever you find yourself traveling through the land of the Pennsylvania Dutch, you simply must try one or two or all of these tasty treats!
Soft Pretzels are best made in Lancaster County! Though Auntie Anne's is always a favorite, the road side Amish/Mennonite stores sell some of the most tasty soft pretzels! ~ One of my favorite teas growing up was made from wild mint that grew in our own meadow. Just brew and add some sugar and you get the best Meadow Tea ever! ~ One thing you will find in Lancaster County are the amazing gas stations! You will find some very tasty coffee and made-to-order food items at Wawa & Sheetz. ~ In Lancaster, we like sweet meat. Wanna try it? Definetly choose the Ham Loaf and the Sweet Bologna! ~ And though you will find these in just about any Starbucks, the truely best Whoopie Pies are made in Lancaster! Growing up, I'd sometimes ride my bike to the local road side store to buy Amish-made chocolate whoopie pies. SOOOO worth it! mmm!
Snacks Snacks Snacks....so many great snacks!! You must ALSO try these items: Good's Potato Chips, Rita's Italian Ice, Wilbur Buds, Turkey Hill Ice Tea & Ice Cream, & Tasty-Kakes! My favorite are the Kandy Kakes! But, one of the first things I like to have when I travel to Lancaster county is a Cheese Steak! I always get mine with sauce and onions! Simply the best! Okay, technically that's 11 reasons...but there are just too many great foods to include!
Have you tried any of these snacks? Which is your favorite? ♥, mK

I live in Lancaster! Next time you are in town you should come visit!
ReplyDeleteWe just traveled to NJ and PA. We don't have some of these foods up here in MA. My husband is obsessed with TastyKake and with Taylor Pork Roll. He likes the Butterscotch TastyKakes. We love Turkey Hill ice cream too- but they sell that here as well.
ReplyDeleteoh gosh, this post is making me extremely hungry! anything chocolate is always perfect!
