I love getting emails, and despite the fact it sometimes takes me a week or two to reply, I really do enjoy the community it builds through the common ground of blogging and all that entails. Last month, I recieved an email asking me, in context of hosting guests in my home," What's your best "secret"?"
I had so much fun thinking deeper about this question, I thought I'd throw it up here for all to see! So, secret to hosting guests? Well, I'd have to narrow it down to two main things.
1 > I usually make tentative plans ahead of time as to what we can take our guests to do. However, I will have some variety of options for whether they feel like relaxing or if they feel like exploring. Then when they arrive, we'll tell them the options and then there is a plan to match their mood. In my experience, having a tentative plan/idea creates a non-stressful, non-boring, non-overloaded or non-rushed visit.
2 > I make simple meals or prepared ahead meals when guests are in town. Or, I'll just figure in time that I can cook when they will probably be relaxing. Dustin's a big help for sure. He'll keep our guests entertained if I have to cook or run to the store. Such a sweetie, he is.
3 > A little bonus for when kids are here... a jar of assorted buttons has been an attention grabber of almost every single kid that has stepped foot inside our door. It is amazing what their creative little minds will do with a jar of colorful buttons!
This is fun for me! If you have any questions on any topic I talk about on this blog, feel free to email me at fromtheguestroomblog(at)gmail(dot)com. I'd love to hear from you and share the conversation on a future post! Welp, Dustin and I have a guest in from Detroit and we're going to go hunt down the Grilled Cheezerie food truck, mmm! Have a WONDERFUL weekend all! ♥, mK

I love the button jar idea!
ReplyDeleteThose are great tips, especially for someone who is not used to having guests! And the jar of buttons is brilliant!
