Dustin and I are off on an adventure today and so I asked a few lovely ladies to share their craziest vacation-trip-adventure story! Here are two of mine, what's yours? ♥, mK
When I was in my early 20's, before I met Dustin, I did a road trip by myself from Sarasota, Florida to my home in Pennsylvania. Earlier that year I had met the host of a music/tv-show called "Steel Roots" at a music festival. She politely said I had a place to stay if I ever was in Charlotte. I took her quite literally called her up and told her four months later that I was coming to Charlotte on my road trip. She was kinda surprised but ended up letting me sleep on her floor and even invited me to co-host a show with her. I ended up being on a total of three episodes.
When I was 19, I traveled to the Solomon Islands for a six week trip. To get to the island village I was going to live at for the first four weeks, I had to travel by canoe and then live in a home built on stilts that the tide would sweep under for a few hours every day. The final two weeks I spent in Honiara. Since The battle of Guadalcanal took place by this island, many of the ships from the battle in WW2 still remain half visibly sunk near some beaches. I dared myself to swim out over the deck of one of the ships. It was pretty freaky.
Several years ago I went to language school in Costa Rica. When I got off the airplane, there were people yelling and holding up signs everywhere. I didn't know Spanish, and I had no idea how I was going to meet my classmates and host family-- none of the signs said my name! As people dwindled down, I found a sign that said Jana {my first name is Jane, & I go by my middle}. Was this me? I wasn't sure if I was being smart or incredibly stupid, but I went home with what was thankfully my host family. The whole way there we sat in silence. It was a rough first few weeks-- like I didn't understand when they said not to put toilet paper in the toilet {bad error!} and I had no idea how to take the buses to class. But, I quickly picked up on Spanish & I came out alive. Good experience? yes. Would I send my daughter? probably not! or, at least not by herself :) - Caroline @ Jane Caroline + Check out these Stories: here, here & here
One time we drove overnight to go to Punxsutawny, Pennsylvania to take part in the Groundhog Day festivities! Let's just say people really really love that groundhog and party all day and all night for the Punxsutawny Phil's 15 seconds of fame. - Megan @ And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
It was June 4, 2007. I knew that I would remember this day for the rest of my life because I was on my way to Paris, France. I had just graduated High School and was living every girls dream. Go to Paris: visit the Eiffel Tower, shop at the Fashion Capitol of the World, see the famous Notre Dame Cathedral, eat Crapes and just embrace the wonderful city. I did just that! We stayed at Grand Hotel Leveque on Rue Cler, literally walking distance from the Eiffel Tower, I enjoyed the aroma of fresh foods, flowers and fish - well I didn't enjoy the smell of fish but you know what I mean. I also enjoyed walking around the city by my self, taking in the beautiful roads and buildings that surrounded me. There is one specific moment I will never forget, I was walking down Rue Cler on my way to the corner grocery store when I hear a woman sitting outside a cafe say "These women in Paris really look and walk like models!" I slowly looked around me and to my excitement I found out that she was talking about me! I'm not bragging because I can't even walk in heels! But, it sure was a great complement! Paris still holds a place in my heart - yes I just started singing "Paris Holds the Key (to Your Heart)" - I cannot wait to go back again! - Alyssa at Impractical Compositions // Etsy // Facebook
It was our last vacation as a family before we all went our separate ways off to college, so we decided we were going to make it a memorable one. We stayed in an all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. You know what that means: all you can eat, drink, and all the sun you can soak up! That vacation I ended up coming back with 5 extra pounds, head aches galore, and sun burns which no aloe could fix, but boy was it worth it! - Shane at Whispering Sweet Nothings // Etsy // Facebook // HelloCotton
On July 2010 I went to Italy and France to spend New Year's Eve with my family. We were lucky enough to spend it on Rome. That night was one of the craziest and most wonderful in my life. Imagine this: Drunk people of all ages singing and dancing. People setting fireworks right in front of you. Drunk people standing like statues in the middle of the chaos. And all of this happening around the Spanish Steps at the Piazza di Spagna. My ears kept hearing different accents and languages and my eyes kept admiring the buildings around us. It was definitely a night I will never forget. - Alex at Second Thoughts // Tumblr // Twitter
My husband and I stayed local for our Honeymoon and decided to go on a road trip to a touristy location about 6 hours away. We went to a string of little tourist towns, road ferries across lakes, shopped in tiny shops, lounged in our hotel and ate delicious food at local restaurants. We also ended up with a flat tire and sat in a repair shop for almost 4 hours waiting to get it fixed. THEN, on our way back home, I thought I would take a nap while my husband was driving...he let me know once we got home that he drove the whole way back without any brakes! He told me that he used the handbrake during the whole 6 hour drive back home.. if I had known that at the time {which is exactly why he didn't tell me!} LOL...we laugh about it now, but can you imagine driving without any brakes?! - Lish at Imprintalish // Facebook // Twitter // Pinterest // Shop-50% Off in July with Code JULY50
Last year, my husband (then boyfriend at the time) and I were flying with buddy passes to Salt Lake City. We purposely had a long layover in NYC so we could explore. It was really amazing and we did so much in the 6 hours we were there. Well, when we went to leave NYC for SLC we didn't make the flight because of our buddy passes. I started to freak out and asked if we could get on a flight back to Florida. They were all booked until the next night. Pretty much I thought the King and I were stuck living in the JetBlue terminal of JFK. Finally we found a solution. We flew into San Juan, Puerto Rico and spent about 7 hours in Old San Juan and then were able top fly back into Orlando. Basically, we left Orlando at 6am on Thursday morning for NYC and came back Friday night at 9pm from San Juan, Puerto Rico. CRAZY!
